Quinoa Crunch Cereal and a Healthy Cookbook Giveaway

Mornings in my house often start with: “Mama, yogut and ganowa!” That’s the sound of my R-challenged two year old calling out for his breakfast.

He’s looking for yogurt and granola. And not the kind of granola you buy in a box or from a bulk bin, or even in a fancied-up super expensive bag from the farmers’ market. No siree, my kid is looking for mama’s homespun made-from-scratch cereal. Continue Reading →

Pumpkin Pie Baked Steel Cut Oatmeal

I swore I wouldn’t utter the “P” word this autumn. Does the Internet really need another p—kin spice recipe?

Oatmeal Buttermilk Pancakes

And there is typically no coffee or newspaper waiting for me. Strike that. There is never any coffee or newspaper waiting for me. But thanks to the brilliant folks who invented that whole Nespresso contraption, coffee is never too far off. Continue Reading →

One Bowl Oatmeal Applesauce Waffles

One Bowl Oatmeal Applesauce Waffles | www.kiwiandbean.com

I’ve recently re-discovered the early morning run.

It’s something I did regularly—every day, even—before the kids came along. Before interrupted sleep, breakfast-making and all those pesky child-rearing responsibilities made it nearly impossible to sneak out the door for a 6 a.m. sweat session.

Don’t get me wrong; I do love the early morning cuddles and slobbery kisses, and the bright eyes staring into my bleary ones. I’ve been warned not to wish these years away, and so I relish them while I drink my cappuccino and secretly dream about the day my kids can pour themselves a bowl of cereal and turn on the cartoons.

But I’ve missed the running—that morning dose of endorphins that lifted my mood and kick-started my day. Continue Reading →
