Hi and welcome. This is the story of how I feed my hungry family.

“I” am Sarah—a lawyer, wife, mama and semi-professional shower-singer. This is me, after a particularly good haircut and blowdry. I don’t usually look like this.

“My hungry family” is:

Kiwi – a lactose-intolerant investment banker on low-carb diet.
The Bean – a pasta-loving three year old gal.
The Beansprout – a baby boy with severe allergies to nuts, eggs and wheat.

I’ll bet you want to have us over to dinner!

This is all of us doing the happy-family-on-a-grassy-knoll thing. We don’t usually look like this.

Family | (Cooking for) Kiwi & BeanI started this blog in January 2013. My friends pressured me into it! I think they were tired of receiving my unsolicited “you will never guess what I made for dinner last night!!!” emails. I can’t really blame them.

My blog is for families who want to cook and share real, wholesome, tasty food, but don’t have a lot of time to fit in. Is that you? If so, pull up a chair and thumb through the tips, tricks and recipes that help me make it through the week (or at least until Thursday night!).

You won’t find fussy preparations, hard-to-find ingredients, or 12 step sous-vide cooking, but you will find breakfasts that cook while you sleep, dinners that can be assembled from pantry staples when you run in the door, and meals that cook in one skillet. You will find tips for meal planning, batch cooking and freezing, so that the food is ready when you (and your small people) are hungry.

You will also find my best advice for accommodating multiple dietary preferences (um, picky kids anyone?) and restrictions—even severe food allergies—without spending all day in the kitchen, or making four different meals. It’s possible! I think. I’m working on it.

There may also be pictures of frozen pizza in the oven and boxed mac & cheese on the stove. Cause this is not just the story of how I feed my hungry family; it’s the true and unedited one.

Thanks for stopping in. I’m so glad to have you here.
